In the app, it will say "arrive by" and that will be a time 5 minutes after the block start, e.g. If you are more than 5 minutes late checking, they have the option of kicking you for that block. You can arrive any time you want, but you cannot check in any sooner than 15 minutes before. This will open a navigation tool with directions to the center. 1 hour before your block starts, an option to begin delivering will show up in the app. Step 1 - head to your local distribution center. As you'll see when I get into a breakdown of my experiences so far, this usually works in your favor.Īfter you've picked up blocks, its time to start working! What does that process look like? If you show up and complete your deliveries, you get paid that, regardless of how long it takes you. The thing is, that's just Amazon's estimate of how long it should take.

My market seems to have a going rate of $18/hr for "standard" blocks (as opposed to large delivery blocks reserved for people with big vans and such) so a four hour block is worth $72 although this can vary. Unlike some gig apps, Flex is very clear on payment. Also, check the app frequently throughout the day in case people are dropping blocks the next day. If anyone is dropping blocks, you can pick them up. The best strategy is to get a feeling for when blocks tend to start, then open the app about 1 hr before and refresh to offers screen every few seconds for the next 10 minutes or so. You're allowed to forfeit a block up to 45 minutes before it starts without penalty and people do pretty often. Primarily, though, what you'll end up getting more often than not are blocks that others who have picked them up already (competition is high!!) are forfeiting. Instead, they seem to release blocks frequently and at random. There is no Saturday morning rush for scraps like there is if you are a partner on GH. First of all, Amazon doesn't have any published time for releasing blocks unlike Grubhub. Today, I have one 4 hour block and one 3.5 hour block, for example. The most common block length is 4 hours, but they offer other lengths, sometimes in half hour increments.

They refer to them as blocks, much like Grubhub. The background check took about two weeks to clear for no known reason, but in the end I got cleared to start.įlex is another gig app that works around a schedule. Fast forward three months.and I got an email to sign up! I proceeded to register, and went through their online onboarding, which consisted of 8 or 9 rather redundant videos.
#Amazon flexible work schedule drivers
When I first learned about Flex, I put my name in the hat and was told they'd be in touch when they needed drivers in my market. This is really no different than any other gig app, except that Amazon only takes so many people at once. Downtime in these gigs usually means no pay at all.įlex was especially attractive, as they advertise that you can make up to $25/hr. To me, it is all about maximizing how busy I am and how much money I'm making, when I am working. I am a multi-app fiend (I do Doordash, Grubhub, Postmates, UberEats, Instacart, Amazon Flex and I'm looking to start with Shipt).
